How to use elliptical cutter for superstring finishing?
When CNC roughing, we often use dynamic processing technology to improve processing efficiency. So in the more time-consuming finishing process, is there any way to improve the processing efficiency?
Mastercam's Accelerated Finishing superstring finishing technology is the programming solution for efficient finishing with arc cutters. For large arc cutters of various shapes, based on the shape of the cutter, the contact point of the cutter during the machining process can be dynamically compensated through a special tool path algorithm, and the shape of the arc cutter can be fully utilized for high-precision and high-efficiency finishing.
The surface quality of finishing depends largely on the height of the residual ridges left after machining. So what is the height of the ridge? Ridge height refers to the maximum height of the raised portion of residual material after the tool passes through two adjacent tool paths during machining. The cutting edge of the elliptical arc tool consists of a large arc side edge and a small arc tip. When performing finishing machining, cutting is mainly performed with a large arc side edge. Using a large arc cutting edge for finishing, with the same step distance, can achieve a smaller residual ridge height. The elliptical arc cutter has a large side edge radian and a small tool tip radian. In practical applications, it is suitable for the finishing of steep curved surfaces with curvatures in both U and V directions.
